Break a treaty/end a treaty.It is not uncommon to hear people claim that the old treaties of the past are no longer valid because the treaties have been ignored or broken over the years. The idea that treaties end when they are broken is no more true than laws ending when they are broken. In fact, the U.S. courts have respected the rule of law in their relationships with the Indians by honoring Indian treaties over and over again in numerous court cases. |
